The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) is a professional medical association of emergency medicine physicians concerned with the "corporate practice of medicine" and the negative consequences related to patient care. It was formed in 1993. As of 2008, the AAEM had approximately 5,100 members.
AAEM works cooperatively alongside the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP) when the interests of emergency medicine call for a united front. Active membership is open to all physicians who have completed an emergency medicine residency approved by either the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
Fellows use the post-nominal letters FAAEM.
